Drew Olsen began riding at a young age. He started competing in the sport of team roping at the age of 13. He competed in the sport successfully for many years, winning several buckles and saddles. At the age of 18 Drew opened Southern Horsemanship and has been successfully training horses ever since. His training philosophy has been influenced by many people over the years. Drew's father was very influential in his horsemanship, through him Drew gained a better understanding of how to establish boundaries and gain a horses respect, both on the ground and in the saddle. Drew has studied and rode with many other horse professionals throughout his career attending clinics and taking lessons from some of the country’s top horseman. Drew is a strong believer that you never stop learning, no matter what level you are at, perfection is impossible and there is always room for improvement.
In 2007 Drew was drawn to the sport of reining. During the course of a few visits to top trainers in the industry, and after attending numerous clinics, he became fascinated by the sport and decided to start training and showing reining horses. Drew gained as much knowledge as possible from his visits and started studying and watching various reining trainers to better understand the sport and how to train the horses involved. With a deep understanding of how to train a reining horse correctly to prosper in the show pen. Drew is now in the process of scouting out promising prospects to train and show.
